installation for 26 letters is a playful implementation of the Roman alphabet by installation artist Sivan Berlin, poetry mediator Nicola Caroli and film maker Sophie Watzlawick. The 26 mini-Installations for looking at, touching and listening are conceived for libraries and bookshops but can also be shown in schools and public and private art spaces.
installation for 26 letters offers a new view of the individual letters: of the shape, sound, history of origin or about associated words.
The installation is not designed to learn the alphabet with, but to discover it anew and to inspire a playful way of dealing with language. The Roman alphabet was chosen because it is the most widely used alphabet in the location. The artists have limited themselves to the one alphabet and the German language in an attempt to do them a little bit of justice.
From the 02. to 22. March 2009 installation for 26 letters took place in the Bibliothek am Luisenbad as part of the poetry festival Printemps des Poètes, Berlin09. In place of the usual A-Z register one could find an installation for each letter.
Thanks to Irene Müller and Heidrun Hübner-Gepp of the Bibliothek am Luisenbad, Sophie Watzlawick and Marcello Busato for the sound compositions, Rafi Leshem and Jörg Richter for their support.
